The Graphics Office

ALVIN LUSTIG, AMERICAN MODERNIST

RESEARCH | CURATION | WRITING | GRAPHIC DESIGN | EXHIBITION DESIGN

This exhibition brought together the variety of work by designer Alvin Lustig (1914–1950): graphic design, furniture, textiles, sculpture, and industrial design. Doug curated the exhibition, wrote the essay, and designed the exhibition, brochure, and invitation for the Bard Graduate Center in New York. The project was a wonderful collaboration with BGC graduate and designer Rita Jules.

All of Lustig’s book cover designs for New Directions press displayed together in a vitrine; Elaine Lustig Cohen, Lustig’s widow, at the exhibition opening. She is seated on a Lustig design in front of a photo of herself in the 1940s.

Booklet for the exhibition, with text by Doug Clouse and Rita Jules.
