GENERAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK

GRAPHIC DESIGN | IMAGE RESEARCH | WRITING

New York City is known for being tough, but its web of infrastructure needs constant maintenance and updating. Part union, part lobby, and part fraternal organization, the GCA organizes, advocates for, and educates the many companies that help build the city’s infrastructure.

The GCA wanted their 2012 annual report to reflect the scale of damage wrought by Hurricane Sandy and the challenges to city services caused by the storm.

One spread features statistics about New York's infrastructure.

A center foldout traces the chronology of the emergency response to Sandy.

A map shows where GCA members took part in Sandy recovery efforts.

Great engineering feats often start as risky, unpopular projects. Perhaps you’re familiar with the Erie Canal, the Brooklyn Bridge…people didn’t think they were worth the effort either. Asked to create GCA’s “pitch” brochure we pulled together a series of powerful images and worked with writer Gerard Koeppel to set the right tone.

One side of the narrow accordion-fold brochure features a night photo of the Brooklyn Bridge that we found.
