The Handy Book of Artistic Printing

Angela Voulangas and Doug Clouse

We researched, wrote and designed The Handy Book of Artistic Printing, a book about the nineteenth-century printing style. When it was published, the international revival of interest in ornament, lettering, and letterpress printing was developing, and our timing was good. It was one of the first books to analyze this style. Since then, many designers have been drawn to create complex compositions inspired by artistic printing and nineteenth-century penmanship and lettering. Even though other styles and trends have now gained favor, artistic-printing-style design is firmly established in liquor packaging and restaurant and hospitality marketing design.
